Promotion of Mobile Libraries

Mobile libraries for residents of border areas of Una Sana Canton and Karlovac County have been established through the successful implementation of the EU funded project of Cross-border cooperation between BiH and Croatia. The promotion of the mobile libraries was held today at the border between the neighbouring countries, at the border crossing Ličko Petrovo Selo – Izačić.

One of the goals of the project was to connect residents of these border areas, promote the culture of reading and raise the level of literacy, as well as to create basis for the promotion of a lifelong learning.

In addition to books of contemporary artists from both countries and information about the European Union for the kids, vehicles will also be mobile classrooms which will visit the most remote places of the County/Canton. Thematic workshops for children will also be held to introduce them with the European Union, while for the adults there will be lectures on women in entrepreneurship, agricultural possibilities of border areas and ICT workshops. The aim is to strengthen the potential of the population in that area, make it competitive in the labour market and enable them to have a lifelong learning.

The project is implemented jointly by partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cantonal and University Library of Bihac and the City Library Karlovac from Croatia. They have established a network of local communities in the area of education, culture and artistic activities as a basis for IT literacy and lifelong learning in small towns in rural areas.

The total value of the project “MOBILLL – mobile library services for lifelong learning in rural areas of Karlovac County and the Una-Sana Canton” is 111,835.00 Euros, out of which the EU funded 93,265.00 Euros through IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme between BiH and Croatia.
