Erasmus Plus and BiH: EU supports civil activism advocating the programme in the country

Natalia Dianiskova, Head of Operations Section III (Social Development, Civil Society and Cross-Border Cooperation) met yesterday in the EU House in Sarajevo with Ernad Deni Comaga, President of the Democratic Youth Movement (DYM) and Amila Selimadzovic, the Secretary of the DYM.

DYM is a civil society organization that initiated an online petition for Bosnia and Herzegovina to participate in the programme Erasmus +. So far, they have collected over 8,000 signatures.

“I had a personal motivation to do this petition. Since I am an Erasmus Mundus programme alumni, I was shocked to learn that BiH authorities are refusing to participate in the Erasmus +. I could not stand idle to this and decided to initiate the petition. Our primary goal is to apply pressure on the elected officials of this country to enable BiH’s participation in the programme”, said Mr. Comaga.

Since the petition started, it has since been communicated that Bosnia and Herzegovina ‘s institutions  have now reached agreement  to participate in the Erasmus + programme.

“I can see that you have motivated young people in BiH with  this petition – civil society can always count on our support for your advocacy”, said Ms. Dianiskova.

Ms. Dianiskova and the activists discussed the details of Erasmus + as well as other programmes that offer scholarships and exchanges to students in BiH.

The Erasmus + programme aims to boost skills and employability, as well as modernising education, training, and youth work. The European Union strongly supports Bosnia and Herzegovina’s participation in the seven year programme that will have an overall budget of 14.7 billion Euro.
