Activists march in Sarajevo to mark International Human Rights Day

A group of activists and citizens organized a protest march ‘Human Rights Outside!’ today in Sarajevo to mark the International Human Rights Day. The aim of the march was to raise public awareness about the rights of all who are being discriminated against and marginalized in Bosnia and Herzegovina: women, youth, Roma, handicapped persons, LGBTI community, victims of war, refugees, returnees, and others. Representatives of EUSR, Youth Initiative for Human Rights and Council of Europe also participated in the march.

The route of the march was the Academy of Fine Arts – The FBiH Parliament – Aifel’s Bridge –  the Canton of Sarajevo building – the Marshal Tito street – The BiH Parliament – the Faculty of Philosophy. The march participants briefly stopped in front of the buildings of legislative bodies in Sarajevo and read out their demands in relation to security of life and promotion of the right to work, the right to education and the right to a secure environment.

International Human Rights Day is celebrated on December 10th, on the day of the signing of the Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 when the right of all people to “life, freedom, and security…without any exceptions” was recognized.
