Schools from Zenica win “BiH Cities for EU” Competition

Students from two Zenica schools, the Meša Selimović primary school and the First Gymnasium, have won a countrywide quiz competition funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Approximately 500 hundred pupils from all across the country participated in the quizzes, which were launched in May  2013.

“This competition has been an excellent way of learning more about the EU,” Head of Communications at the EU Delegation/EUSR Andy McGuffie told participants and audience members as he presented prizes at the final of the competition, held at the  Youth Culture Centre in Sarajevo on 14 October. “The ‘BiH Cities for EU’ competition has brought pupils from all across the country together, to compete and to have fun. I hope all of you have had fun. Just being here is a great achievement. You are all winners because you made it through the very competitive early rounds. Reaching the final is a credit not only to you but to your teachers and your schools.”

Quiz questions covered a range of topics related to EU countries, artists, writers, scientists, notable places and historical events, and offered participants an opportunity to learn more about their own country as teams travelled to different towns and cities, where they visited museums and cultural venues as well as taking part in the competition itself.

The quiz brought together young people from 9 primary schools and 8 high schools from Grude, Livno, Zenica and Gradiška. Qualifying rounds were held in Livno, Zenica and Gradiška and the semi-finals took place in Banja Luka on 8 October.
