Awards Presented to Young BiH Innovators

At a gala presentation in Sarajevo on September 20, 13 BiH innovators under the age of 25 showcased their innovative work, and three were awarded prizes.

“Research and development are key to the progress and economic growth of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it’s imperative to push the boundaries of knowledge and innovation further,” Andy McGuffie, spokesperson of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative’s Office, said at the prize-giving ceremony.

First prize, worth 1.000 KM was awarded to Meliha Klopic from Cazin for invention of special hair removal sugar paste. Second prize, worth 500 KM went to Nedzad Ribic from Lukavac for invention of self-watering vase. A special prize, worth 300 KM for best innovation related to energy efficiency and sustainable transport was awarded to Mirza Banjanovic for invention of new synchronised generator without sliding rings and brushes. Students of the Electrical Engineering Secondary School in Sarajevo were honoured with a special recognition award for promoting energy efficiency and sustainable transport through work that fell outside the competition programme . 

The “Young Innovators: Best Innovations” contest was held to mark EU Mobility Week (16 – 22 September), an annual initiative implemented with the support of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environmental Protection. The competition was organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with the BiH Association of Innovators.
