EU Ambassadors at the Museum

EU Ambassadors visit the National Museum in Sarajevo

Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, and EU Member State ambassadors accredited to BiH visited the National Museum in Sarajevo on 8 September. In a meeting held in the Museum, the ambassadors were briefed on the efforts to reach an agreement between the cantons and municipalities willing to finance the National Museum.

Commenting on the visit, Ambassador Wigemark said: “The EU ambassadors are here today because we understand the importance of this Museum for the preservation of the cultural heritage of the entire country and its people. The EU has been actively following the discussions by the authorities which resulted in a solution that lead to its re-opening. I would encourage all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to visit the Museum and congratulate all those that have been involved in making the reopening happening: the authorities, the citizens from the initiative ‘Ja sam muzej’ and the Museum’s employees.”

The signing of the Memorandum regulating future financing is scheduled for 15 September 2015. The signing paves the way for re-opening of the National Museum on the same day.
