Primary schools in Canton Sarajevo to take part in air quality awareness-raising campaign

A symbolic flag-raising ceremony organised within the awareness-raising campaign titled “Aer Sana in Corpore Sano” – “U zdravom tijelu zdrav vazduh”, first initiated during EnviroDay on 17 August 2016, took place today at the “Fatima Gunić” primary school in Sarajevo.

On the first day of school, Canton Sarajevo and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) organised a small reception attended by Prime Minister Elmedin Konaković, Sarajevo Canton Minister for Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection Čedomir Lukić, Canton Minister for Education, Science and Youth Elvir Kazazović, and UNEP representative Pier Carlo Sandei, who noted the support of the EUD/EUSR in Bosnia and Herzegovina to the campaign.

The purpose of the ceremony was to kick-start an initiative to display “white flags” on each primary school in Canton Sarajevo to visually demonstrate what the air we breathe looks like after the flags remain displayed outside for a period of 3 months.

A special photographic exhibition on air quality monitoring in Bosnia and Herzegovina opened on EnviroDay during Sarajevo Film Festival on 17 August, organised by UNEP with the support of the EUD/EUSR, and remains open at the premises of the EU Info Centre, (address: Skenderija 3a, Sarajevo) until 9 September, on working days from 09:30 to 17:30 hrs.
